paste tubes

Here is a video of making paste and then storing it in sterilized tubes, which gives them a shelf life of several months.  It's a pretty amazing storage technique which solves the main challenge of paste, namely that it goes bad in just a few days. And it gets tiresome making paste all the time.

I think I'll work on the next one soon.  Check back.

plough in boards

I'm doing a book for a church which need to be ploughed, and the most fun way of ploughing a book is doing it this way.  So I thought I'd try to make a video of it.  Hard to know what's enough detail, what is too much.

There's stuff to figure out with these that have nothing to do with content.  I ad-lib them.  Someone sent me an email with the word "script" in it and I had to go to the dictionary to see what that was.  Maybe I should try it.  We'll see.

This is number 6.  I want to get to 10, so that if someone finds the site they'll have enough to keep their interest and get them to come back.  And I think 10 will do that, depending on how good they are of course.

I'll do more, but right now I'm just focused on getting to 10.

Here's the video:

Paper Grain

This really isn't the type of video I'm intending to make, frankly, but I was bouncing around youtube and saw an explanation of determining paper grain that was a bit, well, different.  So, I thought what the heck.

I'm able to post videos here by putting them on youtube first.

Anyway, paper grain and how to determine its direction.

Oh, and Hollywood hasn't called yet.  Just so you know.

Formeringslinjaler

This video is about another Swedish bookbinding tool that I use fairly often.  It's not that common over here, but think it is in Europe.

videos

Here is the first of several videos I'm planning on making. They are not intended to be instructional per se, but just a glimpse of what's involved in binding and conservation.  So, let's call them informational rather than educational.

This first one was done mainly to figure out how to use the camera I got for Christmas, along with how to edit, add audio.... just a practice really. Though I hope you find it interesting and fun. Shocking, even.

These will also be on my second web site:

www.book-conservation.com

I think you need iTunes/Quicktime in order to see them on that site.  But this shouldn't have that issue.  Hopefully.

Here it is:
